Mental Illness
For my second Apollo project I decided to take a deeper look into mental illness. I have always been interested in psychology and learning how to help people with mental illnesses, so this project felt like the perfect time to dive deeper into those interests. This project was very important to me because I have struggled with mental illness for most of my life, and I know lots of people who are struggle with a mental illness. I have always had strong urges to help people overcome their struggles, and I wanted to use this project to help people who might not have a mental illness grasp how they can help someone who is struggling.

After lots of discussion with Mr. Ward I decided to make a document for teachers to help them learn more about mental illness and how to accommodate for students with a mental illness. I picked nine different mental illnesses that are fairly common to create my document for. Each document contains the definition of the illness, symptoms of the illness, tips for teachers, testimonial from a person with that mental illness, important resources, and facts about that mental illness. My goal was to create a page for all nine of the mental illnesses, but because of time I only had time to create pages for four of them. This project was also very much a researched based project, and early on I came across a major problem. I wasn't sure how I was going to include the thinking skill perspective, but Mr. Ward was able to help me come up with a way to add perspective into my work through the use of testimonials. I took testimonials from people with a specific mental illness and then gave my thoughts on how this testimonial could help a teacher understand their students more.

For my art project I knew that I wanted to try and do portrait photography, and this fit in very well with my topic of mental illness. I decided to use a combination of props and edited images to symbolize different mental illnesses. I created two images that symbolize anxiety, an image for eating disorders, an image for depression, an image for schizophrenia, and an image for multiple personality disorder.
